With UT, surface and sub-surface flaws can be detected both in raw materials, processed materials and in-service installations/components with injection of high frequency sound waves travel through the material and return to the transducer. Changes in the amount of sound received reveals imperfections in the material. Cracks, laminations, shrinkage, cavities, bursts, flakes, pores, bonding faults, inclusions, etc. can be detected and help asset owners’ put in place interventions actions to address the conditions on-time.
